Recovery / Disposal of Waste
BalBok Engineering Co. offers collection and transportation, physico-chemical treatment, repackaging, pre-treatment sorting and dismantling, also temporary and permanent storage of different kind of waste, such as:
- organic and inorganic waste containing dangerous substances;
- cyanide containing waste – acids, sediments, waste materials;
- used sorbents, filters, protective clothes, contaminated packaging etc.;
- paint, varnish, thinner, sludge of regeneration of paint and varnish;
- sludge from on-site effluent treatment;
- mercury containing waste – thermometers, lamps, mercury rectifiers, mercury compounds, etc.
We have considerable experience in development of solidification and stabilization technologies for every particular case, depending on the characteristics of the waste and the aims of the waste generator – landfill, permanent storage in containers and in mines, recovery as final product, etc.
The 6ST technology is a perfect solution for temporary or permanent disposal operations of toxic waste, not suitable for incineration.
The sites, where the filled “B-B cube”® containers are placed, do not require special security measures. The annual monitoring performed by BalBok Engineering Co. proves no contamination of the components of the environment.
Management of specific groups of waste
Obsolete and banned pesticides
The historically accumulated significant quantities of obsolete and banned pesticides in every part of the country put at risk human health, the environment and impede the development of the region where they are located.
BalBok Engineering Co. applies an integrated approach towards management of this type of waste, which consist of proper identification, physico-chemical treatment, re-packaging, and disposal (permanent storage in Bulgaria or incineration abroad). Total elimination of the pollution from the improper storage of this hazardous waste is achieved by removal and neutralizing of waste residues and treatment of the contaminated soil around the premises by our own method for land treatment.
The 6ST technology, developed by BalBok and used for treatment of over 5000 t of pesticides was successfully presented during the 7th and 8th International HCH and Pesticides Forums.
The sites, where the filled “B-B cube”® containers are located, do not require special security measures. The annual monitoring performed by BalBok Engineering Co. proves no contamination of the components of the environment.
Waste, Containing Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
The establishments or undertakings, in possession equipment, oil, and other waste containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are obliged by the Stockholm convention and our national legislation to inventory, marking, and disposal of PCB-containing equipment and waste, in order to protect the human health and the environment from PCB-pollution. Activities with this kind of waste are subject to permit requirements.
BalBok’s permit include collection, transportation, repackaging and storage pending disposal of waste with code 13 01 01*, 13 03 01*, 15 02 02*, 16 02 09* and 17 09 02*.
The PCB-waste is further sent to designated fully licensed European facility where state-of-the-art technology is applied. Transportation strictly follows the ADR and IMDG requirements.
With our history of successful projects we guarantee prevention of pollution and met stringent legislative requirements.
Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment
We treat the waste according to the requirements, set in the WEEE and RoHS Directives and Bulgarian legislation. They apply to the production released on the market, as well as collection and treatment of waste equipment.
BalBok Engineering Co. works very successfully with the companies, producing and importing electric and electronic equipment for non-personal use.
We offer individual schemes for collecting and recovery – alternative to the collective ones, offered by different recovery organizations.
We guarantee to all our clients strict accounting and met legislation obligations for treatment of waste.
Mercury containing lamps
In 2003 BalBok Engineering Co. developed its own collection system for mercury containing lamps, adding other types of waste, electric and electronic equipment later on.
We collect, from the whole territory of the country, gas discharge lamps, which we carefully sort and clean, then deliver for recycling in specially designed facilities. The achieved recycling rate is above 90%.
Substances that deplete the ozone layer. Fluorinated greenhouse gases.
National and European legislation forbid producing, import, export, bringing to market and use of substances that deplete the ozone layer, as well as products and facilities, using, containing or made of substances that deplete the ozone layer.
There are strict requirements, concerning bringing to market, use, collection and storage, recycling, regeneration and disposal of ozone depleting substances, aiming prevention of improper handling, including accidental release in the atmosphere.
Controlled substances (refrigerants – R11, R12, R13 etc., halon, carbon tetrachloride, methyl bromide and others) are listed in the Gov. Act No 254 of 1999 and Regulations (EC) 1005/2009 and 842/2006.
BalBok’s permit is for collection, transportation, repacking and storage for disposal or recovery of waste classified 14 06 01* “Chlorofluorocarbons, HCFC, HFC” and 16 05 04* “Gases in pressure containers (including halons), containing dangerous substances”.
Our personnel hold certificates for reclamation of fluorinated greenhouse gas from refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
