RADIOACTIVE WASTE

B-B CUBE®

B-B cube® - a trademark of BalBok Engineering - is reinforced concrete container designed for transportation and storage of hazardous and radioactive waste.

STORAGE FACILITY FOR STORING IONISING RADIATION SOURCES

The storage facility for ionizing radiation sources' design and production is based on the B-B cube® container. It is a mobile facility providing protection against an unauthorized access and shielding in case of TI up to 15.

There are 2 operational facilities at Sofia Airport.

TECHNOLOGY FOR LIQUID RADWASTE TREATMENT

This technology is for treatment by cementation of liquid radwaste, arising during the nuclear facilities operation. The technology was developed in 1992 and patented. It was presented at the International Symposium on Radwaste - WM'93, Tucson, USA in 1993.

RADWASTE TREATMENT SHOP AND STORAGE DESIGNS AND NON-STANDARD EQUIPMENT FOR THEM

An overall design, covering documentation of non-standard equipment and engineering facilities was developed, reported and adopted by an expert council for the needs of the NPP "Kozloduy". Timing of design - 1992-1993.

Non-standard equipment for radwaste processing and B-B cube® containers were designed, produced and supplied to Khmelnitskaya NPP and a technical safety assessment provided to the Safety Authority of Ukraine in the field of nuclear power. Implementation period: January 1995 - July 1995.

COMPUTERISED INFORMATION SYSTEMS FOR RADWASTE MANAGEMENT

A computerised information system for the management of NPP "Kozloduy" radwaste was developed and put on line in 1994. The system covers the whole life cycle of the generated, processed and stored radwaste at the plant site. The system was reported at the International Symposium on Radwaste - WM` 94 Tucson, Arizona, USA in 1994.

An updated and adjusted Computerised Information System for Radwaste Management was put on line in Khmelnitskaya NPP in 1995.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION AND ESTIMATION OF A RADWASTE STORAGE SYSTEM

This is a theoretical development covering criteria for the evaluation of the characteristics of each barrier included in the multibarrier approach to the environment protection from radioactive waste.

The development was presented at the International Symposium on Radwaste Disposal In Kiev, Ukraine in 1994 and at the IAEA International meeting on the Management of Wastes from VVER Reactors Operation held in 1995 in Moscow, Russia.

COLLECTION OF METHODS FOR QUALIFICATION AND ACCEPTANCE OF RADWASTE TREATED BY CEMENTATION

The collection covers all the indices and methods for radwaste specification, which should be used to qualify and accept for storage the final product arisen during cementation of liquid radwastes. The collection was developed and accepted by an expert council in 1994.

MODULAR TYPE REPOSITORY FOR LONG-TERM STORAGE OF RADWASTE AND METHOD OF ITS CONSTRUCTION

The concept of the development is accepted and put on line at the NPP "Kozloduy" and Khmelnitskaya NPP sites.

NPP "KOZLODUY" ORGANIZATION & MANAGEMENT - "PROEKT` 92"

"Proekt` 92" is referred to a new NPP "Kozloduy" organization & management. At consists of three parts including job description of the management personnel. The organization proposed in "Proekt` 92" referd to the six NPP "Kozloduy" units.

"Proekt` 92" was grounded on the idea to implement such a policy at the NPP "Kozloduy" that assures high standard of safe 2 profitable operation of its nuclear facilities, a policy that covers all its activities 2 includes quality assurance on the basis of appropriate national and international regulations, recommendations and instructions.
