Earth Day 2025
2025-04-17
Every year on April 22, we celebrate Earth Day.
For the first time, Earth Day was officially celebrated on April 22, 1970 in the USA and Canada. Bulgaria was one of the first countries to join the international celebration of Earth Day, which began in 1990. On April 22, 1992, Bulgaria signed the Earth Pledge.
Every year, the International Earth Day Network coordinates the actions of more than 12,000 partners in 174 countries aimed at protecting planet Earth and preserving life on it. The network strives to create broad civic support for sustainable and effective environmental development policies around the world.
On December 14, back in 1930, Bulgaria was the first country in the world to celebrate Earth Day. The day was celebrated at the suggestion of the then Minister of Agriculture and State Property Grigor Vassilev - a famous Bulgarian politician, journalist and lawyer. His idea received broad support from agriculture ministers from all over Europe.
The Bulgarian Land Day became the occasion for the organizers to take the initiative to establish an International Earth Day.
